We all know that we should get plenty of exercise, eat healthy and perhaps lose some weight, yet only 8% keep their new year’s resolutions. But do we know what getting physical can do for our mind’s health?

Ready to start building a buff brain? The Mayo Clinic2 states: Exercise improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood and by improving self-esteem and cognitive function. You don't need to become a fitness fiend to reap benefits. In many studies, just walking briskly for 30 to 60 minutes three to five times a week contributed to measurable brain improvements. Healthline3 gives 10 Exercises to tone every inch of your body.

Some activities to improve and maintain our Mental health.

  • Get plenty of sleep. Adults should get as close to 8 hours of sleep per night if they can

  • Stop to enjoy small aspects of the day

  • Use a stress ball or some other stress reliever

  • Perform a random act of kindness

  • Exercise

  • Deep breathing exercises

  • Yoga

  • Pet a dog

Along with physical exercise, nutrition is the fuel that boosts your mental health. There are some foods that boost our brains. Focus on eating plenty of fruits and vegetables along with foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon. Dark green leafy vegetables in particular are brain protective. Nuts, seeds and legumes, such as beans and lentils, are also excellent brain foods. Brain food according to Mayo Clinic for Nutrition and healthy eating4.
