TELL YOURSELF A DIFFERENT STORY?

Our story or life is made up of our perceptions, imaginations, memories, and emotions from our past. It therefore becomes difficult to tell ourselves a different story because our body retains it, and our mind supports it. As we share it with ourself and others, we do not include a caveat of “BTW 50% of all of my perceptions are not the truth but believe me when I tell you….”

My word of the year is curious (eager to learn something). So, when someone says something that they might have little knowledge about, or I do not agree with or could be offensive, I simply ask “Tell me more about that”? I recommend my 5 R’s of Good Decisions as the process to walk you through to change.

Recognition – Rather than react. When you are faced with something that you disagree with, found offensive or do not have enough information.

Reflection - Consider specific moments that significantly impact the course of your life that brought you to your decisions. What were your feelings and emotions in this experience and what was their origin?

Reframing – Better understand other’s perspectives by trying to view them as experiences you have not had. Look for the lessons learned and personal growth gained rather than as conflict. While the past is unchangeable, you have the power to influence your present and future.

Refocus – Focus on your reframed thoughts. Seek inspiration: Read stories of individuals who have overcome adversity or reinvented themselves. Seek guidance. Consider talking to a trusted friend or mentor for support and guidance in your journey.

Reference - Celebrate your growth, your wins: Acknowledge the progress you've made and the challenges you've overcome. This reinforces a positive self-image and motivates you to keep moving forward.

Prioritize self-care: Taking care of your physical and mental well-being is crucial for self-love. Ensure you get enough sleep, eat nutritious food ,read more, spending time in nature, or pursuing hobbies. Practice self-compassion: Treat yourself with the same understanding and empathy you would offer a close friend.

Challenge negative self-talk - that inner, overly critical voice. Nurture the positive challenge, the negative’s truth. Set healthy boundaries: Respecting your own needs and limitations are essential for self-love

Remember, rewriting your story is a journey, not a destination. Be patient with yourself and celebrate your progress along the way. Or let me know how I can help.
